When we put out the call for outstanding hosts, we never imagined the overwhelming flood of nominations for one name: Jacob Jobman, the FPN host at Drinkaway Lounge in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jacob—known simply as “Jake” to his regulars—isn’t just running poker nights. He’s transformed them.

“Jacob has brought the Omaha poker group to a whole new level,” says Holly “He’s friendly, honest, and always early to set things up. He manages disputes easily, runs a smooth show, and makes the game better for everyone involved.”

From managing conflicts with calm confidence to growing the league from two tables to five regularly, Jake has elevated the local Omaha poker scene in a way that few can match.

“He gets there early, always has the tables set up, and makes sure everything is running smoothly before cards are in the air,” says Sahil Mullick, a longtime player. “He’s friendly, professional, and creates an environment where every player—new or experienced—feels welcomed and respected.”

Fellow player Kyle recalls when the league averaged under 16 players per night. “Now? We regularly hit 50. Jake’s merged leagues, recruited relentlessly, and made the game fair and fun for everyone. He’s a rockstar.”

But it’s not just about numbers. Jake’s passion for the game and the community shines in ways that go far beyond hosting duties. Whether it’s offering drink specials for unique hands, giving up his own seat to avoid waitlists, or fundraising for new tables and cards, he puts others first—every time.

“He even convinced the new bar owner to keep poker going when it was on the chopping block,” Kyle adds. “He became the bridge between management and players. That takes leadership.”

Veteran FPN player Chris shares: “I’ve played at this bar for over a decade. I’ve been to Nationals 8 or 9 times… and I’ve never seen someone manage the room like Jake does. It’s impressive. Unfortunately, the downside is he rarely gets to play anymore!”

Trish Dethlefs, who plays in both the Tuesday and Saturday leagues, says it best: “Jake took a solid group and made it something special. We went from 20 players to over 40 consistently, and there’s a waiting list some nights. And he always gives up his seat so someone else can play. That’s who he is.”

With his friendly demeanor, honest leadership, and selfless commitment, Jacob Jobman truly embodies the spirit of FPN. He’s not just running poker nights—he’s building a community.

So if you ever find yourself in Omaha, swing by Drinkaway Lounge on a Tuesday or Saturday. Watch how the game unfolds under Jake’s steady hand. You’ll quickly understand why players across the city agree: Jacob Jobman isn’t just a host—he’s the MVP.
