As we hit the halfway mark of the Free Poker Network's Fall Season, the excitement is palpable. The Maverick Poker League saw a great turnout at The Mayfield Tavern, with 23 poker enthusiasts ready for action, including new faces, Keith and Megan Long. And "action" was indeed the word of the night as players, alternates eager for a chance to join, and seasoned veterans took to the tables with determination.

Game One: A Battle of Veterans

The night kicked off with chips moving rapidly across the tables as players tested their strategies and nerves. The game started out close, but as it progressed, the veterans began making calculated moves to edge out the competition. In the end, Mike Pjeter and Rick Hoag, a newly crowned weekly qualifier champ, dominated their tables and claimed victory in the first round.

Game Two: A Royal Flush and Steady Wins

In a rare and exciting moment during the second game, one lucky player posted a royal flush. While this special hand dazzled the room, it was Wes Jones and the ever-consistent Jim Elwart who ultimately outplayed the competition, each taking down their tables with skill and composure.

The Final Stanza: A Close Finish

As the night wound down, the competition intensified. Pjeter, riding high off his impressive first two games, looked like he might sweep the night but ended up being eliminated earlier than expected. This left the lead open, and Lew Iler and Mike Soper stepped up to challenge. Although Iler couldn’t clinch it, Hoag managed to keep himself in contention by winning his table again. However, it was Soper who made the strategic move, taking second place in the final game, just enough to edge out Hoag by a single point for the nightly win.

Final Standings

Congratulations to the night’s top three finishers: Soper in first, followed closely by Hoag and Pjeter. Additional point leaders included Mike Nass, Lew Iler, Mike Baker, and Amber Soper, all of whom earned valuable points to bolster their positions in the season rankings.

With this thrilling midpoint complete, players are eager for what’s to come. Good luck to all in the next week’s games—see you on the felt!
