As the Free Poker Network's Fall Season league play nears its conclusion, excitement reached a fever pitch during last night’s showdown, where 24 Mavericks, including three first-time players, gathered to compete. Newcomers Sylvia and Dale Pinson, along with Matt Gingell, made their debuts in style, proving they were more than capable of holding their own. Each had impressive runs in the first game, but seasoned veterans Rick Hoag and Jim Elwart ultimately claimed victory at their respective tables, earning the initial points lead.

In the second game, league leader Mike Baker reasserted his dominance, winning his table to secure vital points. Close behind was Jason Owen, who also emerged victorious at his table, setting the stage for an intense rivalry for the nightly win. The final game saw Mike Pjeter and Mike Swaim step up, clinching wins at their tables. However, the night boiled down to Baker and Owen, both acutely aware of the high stakes.

Going into the third game, Baker held a razor-thin one-point lead over Owen. Both players remained neck and neck throughout, with Baker managing to finish one spot ahead of Owen in the final standings. This tie in points for the night was broken by Baker’s superior performance in the first game, securing him the overall nightly win and reinforcing his lead in the league standings.

While Baker celebrated his victory, Jason Owen took second place, with newcomer Matt Gingell impressively clinching third—a remarkable achievement in his league debut. Congratulations to all three for their strong performances!

With only two weeks left in the season and a high-stakes double-points night looming, the leaderboard is far from set. While Baker has a firm grip on the top spot, surprises could be in store as the season draws to a close.

Stay tuned for more action, and see you on the felt, Mavericks!
