Don't Call it a Comeback, Matt Darron Wins

Matt Darron pulled off the proverbial "chip and a chair" on Mon Nov 03 2025 at 6 Paupers Tavern & Restaurant

Heads up, with Luc, started with both players abundantly cautious; folding their small blinds to each other repeatedly. After the fifth fold, Matt finally received a playable hand and bet 40k. Luc, utilizing his best speech play, says; "40? That number speaks to me. I'm all in". Matt snap calls and tables AQ. Luc revels pocket 4's. Matt completely misses the flop and turn; Luc rivers a set to rub Matt’s nose in it; and Matt doubles Luc up. As the chips are counted, Matt is left with a single 5k chip with the blinds at 5k/10k/10k.

Undeterred, Matt posted his half a big blind...and doubled up. He then posted his full small blind...and tripled up. Rinse and repeat. Poor Luc was caught in a buzzsaw; making (nearly) all the right moves with cruelity of variance kicking him squarely in the nuts. The one error came when the chip count was roughly 3 to 1 in Luc's favor. Flop came 864 (two hearts) and Matt went all-in. Luc, looking like he threw up a little in his mouth, and punchdrunk from all the relentless doubling ups; was unsure how to proceed. Matt assured Luc that he had the bigger pair. Luc implied he had a draw. Matt said it was obvious he needed the 5, and he should call if he had hearts. Luc, perplexed if this was an honest evaluation or Jedi mind trick; elected to fold his 76 (one heart). Matt, later revealed he had flopped bottom pair.

The rest is history. Congrats to Matt Darron outlasting 45 players to score 367 points. With the updated scores in for 6 Paupers Tavern & Restaurant, Matt Darron now ranks 6 on the leaderboard for the current Season.
