“Triple Threat at The Mayfield”
With leaves drifting down and a crisp autumn breeze in the air, it was the perfect night for NLH action at The Mayfield Tavern. Twenty-four of the area’s best poker players gathered to test their skills, trade a little friendly banter, and make their move in the ever-tight Maverick points standings.
From the first shuffle, it was clear this night had something special in store. As Game One wrapped up, three names rose to the top — James Ramsey, Drew Bovee, and Jeremy Dunn — each taking down their tables with precision and confidence.
The stage was set, and the smack talk was flying as Game Two kicked off. But lightning struck twice — Ramsey, Bovee, and Dunn repeated their victories, leaving everyone in disbelief. For the first time in Maverick history, we had a three-way tie for first place, with all three players sweeping their first two games.
Heading into Game Three, tension filled the room. The question wasn’t if someone would make history, but who would claim the night. Could one of the trio pull ahead—or would Candace Sutter, sitting just three points behind, stage a late surge to steal the spotlight?
Ramsey wasted no time throwing down the gauntlet, doubling up early and putting pressure on the field. Both Bovee and Dunn soon fell victim to the grind, each bowing out as the second elimination from their respective tables. That left the door open for Sutter—if she could win her table and hope that Ramsey finished no better than fourth, the title might still be hers.
Ramsey did his part, exiting in fourth and leaving his fate in Candace’s hands. But despite a determined push, a costly misstep ended her run in third place, sealing Ramsey’s historic victory for the evening.
Meanwhile, Lewis Iler mounted a late surge, winning his Game Three table to clinch second place, while Candace Sutter rounded out the podium in third. Congratulations to James Ramsey, who proved that persistence—and a few well-timed doubles—can pay off big.
