Record Night and a Shake Up
The Clash of Kings and Queens is nearing its dramatic conclusion, and the Mavericks came out in record numbers—27 strong—for one of the most intense nights of the season. With the league points championship on the line, every hand mattered, and no one was giving an inch.
With three full tables in play, it was clear from the start: get off to a fast start or risk being left behind. Mike Swaim, Jim Elwart, and James Ramsey rose to the occasion, each securing wins at their tables. But plenty of others kept themselves alive with strong finishes, keeping the pressure on.
Game two brought fireworks. First-timer Art Butler made a statement by taking down his table, while “Coop” and Mike Baker added wins of their own. That set the stage for a thrilling finale. At that point, Jim Elwart led the field by a razor-thin margin—just a single point ahead of Sylvia “TSA” Pinson, with five other Mavericks lurking close behind.
The final round was a test of nerves. Elwart managed a steady third-place finish, leaving his fate in Sylvia’s hands. If “TSA” could outpace him, the night was hers. But in the end, Sylvia fell just short, and Jim Elwart notched his second win of the Summer Season. Sylvia secured a hard-fought second, while Mike Baker closed out the night in third.
The victory shakes up the leaderboard in a big way. With just one week to go—and that week being the all-important double points finale—the top of the standings has been turned upside down:
-
1st – Jim Elwart
-
2nd – Drew Bovee
-
3rd – Scott Sutter
-
4th – Amber Soper
-
5th – Michael Soper
But here’s the kicker: with double points on the line, no one is safe. Elwart may be in the driver’s seat, but a single misstep could open the door for any of the top contenders to snatch the championship away.
Next week promises to be nothing short of epic. The cards will fly, the chips will swing, and by the end of the night, we’ll crown a champion.
Mavericks—don’t miss this one. See you on the felts!
