After a two-week break for the holidays, 23 eager Mavericks, including first-time player Kevin Miller, were more than ready for poker and the start of the Free Poker Network's Winter Season! Following congratulations to last season's league champion, Mike Baker, the action began with a bang as players showed no signs of rust from the hiatus.

The first game saw familiar faces Scott Sutter and Steve Herston rising to the occasion, each winning their respective tables. However, newcomer Kevin Miller and Amber Soper made strong showings, capturing second place at their tables. The second game brought more excitement as Mike Pjeter and George Pethers secured table wins. Amber Soper continued her consistent performance with another second-place finish, setting the stage for a thrilling final game.

As has become tradition, the third game was anyone's to win. Amber Soper entered as the points leader, with Pethers just one point behind and two others within striking distance. The tension was palpable as Soper and Pethers, separated by a single point, battled for supremacy. Soper was eliminated first, but Pethers followed closely behind, leaving the decision to the tiebreaker.

When the final scores were tallied, Amber Soper emerged victorious, claiming her first nightly win with the Maverick Poker League after several near-misses. Congratulations to George Pethers, and the ever-consistent Steve Herston, who finished second and third, respectively.

The Winter Season promises to be one of the most competitive yet, and with nine Mavericks heading to Las Vegas for the FPN National Championship this weekend, the excitement is just beginning. As always, Mavericks, see you on the felts!
