After a week off, the Mavericks gathered once again at The Mayfield Tavern to resume the Free Poker Network’s Winter Season. Shaking off any rust, 23 players showed up in force for a highly anticipated double points night, ready to battle it out at the tables.

A Fast Start and a Royal Surprise

The competition kicked off with Jim Elwart and Jeramy Evely making strong early statements, each securing a win at their respective tables. But just as momentum seemed to settle, Candace Sutter stole the spotlight in Game Two—pulling off a stunning Royal Flush, an extremely rare and powerful hand that sent shockwaves through the room.

Meanwhile, Lewis Iler and Steve Cooper claimed victories in Game Two, setting up an electrifying final round. Heading into Game Three, Cooper led the pack with 22 points, but with five other Mavericks within striking distance, the race was far from decided.

A Tight Battle to the Finish

Game Three did not disappoint. Mike Soper, Candace Sutter, Jim Elwart, and Steve Cooper all made strong pushes in the final round, ensuring a thrilling conclusion. When the dust settled, it came down to a tie for first place—forcing a tiebreaker.

Ultimately, Jim Elwart emerged victorious, securing the night’s top spot on the strength of his Game One win. Cooper claimed second place, while a second tiebreaker determined Candace Sutter edged out Mike Soper for third.

Season Standings Heat Up

With a strong fifth-place finish on double points night, Mike Pjeter now finds himself atop the Winter Season leaderboard. The standings remain tight, with Jim Elwart, Candace Sutter, Amber Soper, and Mike Soper rounding out the top five.

With two months remaining in the season—and two more double points nights ahead—this race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet.

The Mavericks return to action next Tuesday, so as always: see you on the felts!
