Mavericks Charge Down the Stretch as Winter Season Heats Up!

As March winds howled and spring rains threatened, 24 fearless Mavericks—including newcomer Maxx Atwell—braved the elements and stormed into The Mayfield Tavern, each determined to shake up the Free Poker Network's Winter Season standings. With Jim Elwart clinging to a narrow points lead and just one month remaining, the stakes had never been higher.
Fast Out of the Gate: The Early Leaders
The night began at three fiercely competitive tables, where the opening games set a blistering pace. Lewis Iler, Scott Sutter, and Richard Hoag wasted no time establishing dominance, each securing a table win and putting themselves in prime position for the night’s crown.
As the competition barreled into the second game, the Mavericks jostled for position. Steve Herston, Drew Bovee, and Steve Cooper answered the challenge, each claiming victory at their tables and throwing their names into the mix. Meanwhile, Iler’s steady performance kept him ahead by two points, with Mike Soper on his heels and Amanda Dudek keeping pace. Behind them, five other Mavericks lurked just four points back, ready to strike.
The Final Stretch: A Race to the Finish
With the final game underway, all eyes were on Iler, who had controlled the night up to that point. But in a stunning turn of events, he stumbled—bowing out first at his table and leaving the door wide open. Suddenly, the night became a horse race, and the field surged forward!
As the final hands were played, it was a photo finish at the wire. Richard Hoag and Mike Soper emerged victorious at their tables, but Dudek’s strong third-place finish ensured she stayed in contention. When the dust settled, it was Mike Soper who edged out the competition for the night’s big win, with Hoag placing second and Dudek rounding out the podium in third.
Shaking Up the Leaderboard: The Final Charge Begins
With only three weeks left in the FPN Winter Season, the leaderboard saw a seismic shift. Mike Soper surged into the top spot, overtaking Jim Elwart, who now sits in second. Lewis Iler, Candace Sutter, and James Ramsey round out the new top five.
But with one more double points night still looming, the championship remains wide open, and at least eight Mavericks are still in the hunt for the ultimate prize.
As we close out another thrilling night at The Mayfield Tavern, the race to the finish line is on—and it promises to be a battle for the ages.
Who will take it all? Who will falter under the bright lights?
Stay tuned, Mavericks—we’ll see you on the felts!
