Sixteen Mavericks showed up in full Maverick gear, making for a spirited night as the league’s second month of the Free Poker Network Summer Season draws to a close. With the standings getting tighter by the week, the stakes were high for everyone involved.

Game One: The action kicked off with Candace Sutter and Jim Elwart taking commanding wins at their respective tables, setting the tone for what would be an intense competition.

Game Two: After the seat draw, Mike Soper and Steve Cooper made dramatic comebacks, moving from last place to first at their tables. Candace remained strong with a second-place finish, while Jim held on with a solid third place, keeping the race extremely close heading into the final game.

Game Three: By this point, Candace held a slim one-point lead over Jim, with three other players just three points behind. As the final table progressed, it became clear that it was a showdown between Candace and Jim for the night’s overall win. Candace was the first to stumble, finishing fifth at her table, but Jim wasn’t far behind, also finishing fifth at his.

The Conclusion: Steve Cooper and Cliff Jones closed out the night with wins in the final game. When the points were tallied, Candace and Jim were tied for first place! The tiebreaker came down to their second-game finishes, where Candace edged out Jim by just one position, making her not only the night’s winner but also the first-ever female overall winner in league history! Congratulations to Candace on a well-deserved victory.

Final Standings for the Night:

  • 1st Place: Candace Sutter
  • 2nd Place: Jim Elwart
  • 3rd Place: George Pethers, with consistent finishes in all three games
  • 4th Place: Steve Cooper, thanks to his strong showing in games two and three

As the league heads into the final week of month two, the standings are anything but settled, especially with double points up for grabs next week. The competition is wide open, and anything can happen.

Until next week—see you on the felts!
