“It Was the Best of Times…” – Another Epic Maverick Night on the Felts!

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."
So begins one of the greatest tales ever told—and so too began another legendary night of poker with the Maverick Poker League!
21 Mavericks, including an appearance by Nancy Petermann’s husband, packed The Mayfield Tavern with one mission: to prove themselves worthy in a game of Texas Hold ’Em played at dizzying heights.
Game One: The Gauntlet is Thrown
The opening fireworks came courtesy of Mike Nass and Steve Cooper—both already TOC-qualified and showing exactly why. They took down their tables and announced to the field: “We’re not done yet.”
Game Two: Familiar Faces Rise
But the night wouldn’t belong to just one storyline. Rick Hoag and Steve Herston, two names etched deeply in Maverick lore, rose up with table wins of their own in the second round.
As we barreled into game three, Herston led the way with Hoag and Cooper just a point behind, and Jim Elwart and Sylvia “The Silent Assassin” Pinson lurking just one more point back.
Game Three: A Tale of Upsets and Triumph
Early eliminations of Herston and Hoag turned the finale into a wide-open battlefield. But just like Tiny Tim in A Tale of Two Cities, Steve Cooper looked to the dealer and said, “More, please, sir.” And the dealer obliged.
With a final-game win shared with Amanda Dudek, Cooper soared into the top spot for the night, clinching his second nightly win of the Spring Season!
Final Standings
Steve Cooper – “More please,” indeed.
Jim Elwart – Consistent and crafty.
Mike Swain – Strong late-game showing.
Amanda Dudek – Quietly lethal.
Sylvia Pinson – Living up to the TSA nickname.
Season Standings Update
Even with a rare off-night, Lewis Iler continues to lead the season standings. But the heat is rising:
Amanda Dudek
Mike Nass
Steve Cooper
Jim Elwart
Onward to the Next Chapter
With more than half the season left and two double-points night still looming, the leaderboard is still anyone’s game. Buckle up, Mavericks—it’s only getting better.
Until next week—
Shuffle up and deal, and we’ll see you on the felts!
