Bovee Surges as Summer Season Enters the Final Stretch
With the days of summer growing shorter and college football in full swing, 23 Mavericks showed up in their favorite team colors for a spirited night of No-Limit Hold’em action. The final month of the Free Poker Network’s Summer Season is here, and with every point carrying championship weight, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Game One set the tone early, as Drew Bovee, Mike Pjeter, and Ashton Groth each claimed big wins to jumpstart the night.
Game Two delivered more fireworks — Groth kept his momentum alive with another victory, joined by Candace Sutter and Maxx Atwell, tightening the race heading into a decisive Game Three.
At that point, Ashton Groth held the lead on the strength of his two wins, trailed closely by Bovee, Pjeter, and Steve Cooper. Yet with five other Mavericks within striking distance, the final table lineup promised drama — and it delivered.
The leaders began to fall. Groth and Pjeter were the first to stumble, and one by one, their challengers followed. Only Bovee, locked in and determined, stayed the course.
George Pethers and Cliff Jones both mounted late charges, winning their final tables, but it was Drew Bovee, defeating Kathy Brooks heads-up, who sealed the night with a hard-earned table win and a critical stack for his upcoming Tournament of Champions entry.
🥇 Drew Bovee – a clutch performance to take the night
🥈 Ashton Groth – strong early dominance, just short at the finish
🥉 Scott Sutter – steady all evening for the podium finish
With just four weeks remaining, the Summer Season leaderboard stands as follows:
-
Amber Soper – holds the lead
-
Jim Elwart – close behind
-
Drew Bovee – vaults into the top three
-
Scott Sutter
-
Mike Soper
But don’t get too comfortable — the final night will be a double points showdown, meaning one hot run could flip the entire season on its head.
The race is wide open, the tension is building, and the title is still anyone’s to claim.
This is going to be fun.
See you on the felts, Mavericks!
