Autumn Action Heats Up at The Mayfield Tavern
As the leaves outside turn to shades of gold and crimson, the Free Poker Network’s Fall Season is heating up just as quickly inside The Mayfield Tavern. Twenty-two of poker’s finest took their seats, each with one goal in mind — to stack chips, score points, and inch closer to that coveted Champion’s Circle.
The tournament clock ticked down, and from the first hand it was clear: this was going to be a chess match. The play was slow, deliberate, and strategic, as players carefully sized up their opponents. But in true No-Limit Hold ’Em fashion, the blinds waited for no one — and before long, the action picked up pace, forcing players out of their comfort zones and into the fire.
When the dust settled from Game One, it was Tyler Macsuga, “Raisin’ Rick” Hoag, and “Big Slick” Lewis Iler who claimed victory at their tables. Each looked poised to make a serious run at the night’s title.
Game Two started with a similar cautious tone, but soon enough, chips were flying. In a turn of fortune, James “First Out” Ramsey — often the early casualty — lived up to his nickname no more, clawing his way to a table win alongside Drew Bovee and Mike Nass. With Rick Hoag now holding a slim lead, the chase tightened — five Mavericks were within striking distance heading into the final round.
The final game delivered everything poker fans crave — tension, twists, and a finish worthy of a highlight reel. It all came down to Drew Bovee and Steve Thomson, battling heads-up in a rollercoaster duel where the chip lead changed hands multiple times. With just two hands left, Thomson edged ahead, and when all the chips went in, the table erupted — Bovee flipped over 10

, and the flop came down with a seven. Bovee looked ready to double… until runner-runner cards sealed Thomson’s fate in glory with a full house, denying Drew the nightly win in dramatic fashion.
When the points were tallied, it was a three-way tie between Rick Hoag, Mike Soper, and Drew Bovee. The tiebreakers were called in, and when the smoke cleared, it was “Raisin’ Rick” Hoag standing tall with the Nightly Win, Soper taking second, and Bovee locking down a well-earned third.
What a night — skill, luck, and heart all on full display. If this week was any indication, the Fall Season promises to be one for the books.
