Scott Sutter Wins at The Mayfield Tavern
It was another thrilling evening of poker at The Mayfield Tavern as 16 Mavericks gathered for Tigers Pride Night, celebrating not only the Detroit Tigers' march to the World Series but also Candace Sutter's birthday! With tables filled with players sporting Tigers gear, the night kicked off in style, and the competition was fierce.
From the start, some familiar faces rose to the occasion. Rick Hoag and Steve Herston each claimed victory in their initial games, putting them in the early lead. Game two brought more excitement, with players using their bonus chips strategically in a back-and-forth battle. Jason Owen and Jim Elwart came out on top, setting the stage for an intense conclusion to the night.
As we entered game three, Scott Sutter and Jim Elwart led the pack, but no less than five players were still within striking distance. Unfortunately for Elwart, his night ended earlier than anticipated, leaving Scott Sutter to carry on the fight for the win.
But the biggest story of the evening was the family rivalry brewing at the final table. Candace Sutter, celebrating her birthday, was making a serious run at outplaying her father, Scott. With each hand, it became clear that this would be a Sutter showdown. When the dust settled, Candace had won the final game, but she fell just one point short of taking the overall victory.
When the points were tallied, it was Scott Sutter who emerged as the night’s winner, with Candace taking second place in a fantastic performance. Jason Owen rounded out the top three with a strong showing.
After two action-packed weeks of poker in the Royal Court Fall Season, Candace Sutter holds the lead in the league standings, followed closely by Jim Elwart, Mike Baker, and Scott Sutter.
Congratulations to all, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the felts next week!
