What a spectacular night of poker at The Mayfield Tavern as 19 Mavericks gathered with one goal: to win the night and break Lewis Iler’s two-week winning streak. Adding to the excitement was the fact that it was double points night, making it possible for someone to take the lead in the league with only three weeks remaining in the Spring Season. Rick Hoag aimed to maintain his lead as the action unfolded.

The evening started with high hopes for Lewis Iler, but he busted out early in game one. This opened the door for others to step up. Jim Elwart came out strong, winning his table, as did Steve Cooper.

Game two brought a moment that will be remembered for a long time. Lewis Iler, looking to rebound, found himself in a showdown with George Pethers. Lewis held pocket Aces against George’s Ace-Ten of spades. The flop came down King-Jack-Queen, all spades, giving George a flopped Royal Flush! The room erupted in excitement as this rare and extraordinary hand knocked Lewis out of contention.

With the elimination of Lewis, the field was wide open. Rick Hoag, the season points leader, won his table, while Michael Pjeter also claimed a victory. Going into the third and final game, George Pethers led the pack, with Amber Soper, Rick Hoag, and Jim Elwart just two points behind.

As the final game unfolded, George was eliminated early, leaving the outcome up for grabs. One by one, players fell until it came down to Jim Elwart, who secured the win at his table the third game. His consistent and strategic play earned him the top spot, along with The Mayfield Tavern gift card, an FPN shirt, and a Maverick token.

The final standings for the night were:

  1. Jim Elwart – Winner of the night

  2. Rick Hoag – Second place, solidifying his lead in the season points

  3. Steve Hertson – Third place, maintaining a strong position in the standings

The season standings now show Rick Hoag in first place, followed by Steve Hertson in second, and Jim Elwart in third. With next week being the final double points night of the season, the competition is set to be fierce and the standings could shift dramatically.

Join us next Tuesday at The Mayfield Tavern for another exciting night of poker as the Mavericks continue their quest for the top spot. The stakes are high, and the action promises to be thrilling. See you at the tables!
