As summer reaches its peak, so does the competition in the Free Poker Network's (FPN) Summer Season. On Tuesday, 15 determined Mavericks gathered at The Mayfield Tavern, all vying for the nightly win, a spot in the Tournament of Champions (TOC) in October, and a chance to climb the league standings. With three of the league's top ten players absent, the door was open for those in contention to make their moves.

Game 1: Tyler Macsuga and Jason Owen Set the Pace

The first game of the night saw Tyler Macsuga, who has been largely absent this season due to work commitments, return with a vengeance. He dominated his table, securing the win and setting the tone for the evening. Jason Owen also claimed victory at his table, igniting the race to the top.

Game 2: A High-Speed Showdown

The second game was a rapid-fire affair, with both tables finishing in record time. Steve Herston and Ashton Groth emerged victorious, setting up a nail-biting finale. Michael Pjeter, buoyed by two strong performances, led the pack, but with nine players within just three points of each other, the competition was fierce.

Game 3: Pjeter Seals the Deal

The final game of the night was pivotal. Michael Pjeter had the win within his grasp, but with Candace Sutter, Steve Herston, and Jim Elwart just one point behind, there was no room for error. Herston was the first to falter, exiting second at his table, while Elwart’s valiant effort ended with a fourth-place finish, falling short of what was needed.

As the game progressed, it became clear that it was a two-player race between Pjeter and Sutter. When Cliff Jones was knocked out in third place, the stage was set. Pjeter left no doubt, defeating Sutter to win his table and claim the nightly victory.

Congratulations to the Winners

Michael Pjeter's impressive win not only secured him the nightly title but also earned him a coveted seat in the Tournament of Champions on October 5th. Candace Sutter's strong performance earned her a well-deserved second place, with Jim Elwart finishing in third.

League Standings Update

With the conclusion of the night's games and the updated season points, Scott Sutter has extended his lead over Rick Hoag at the top of the league standings. However, with Lewis Iler, Steve Herston, Jim Elwart, and Amber Soper all within striking distance in third through sixth place, the league championship remains wide open. With just six weeks left in the Summer Season and two double-points nights still to come, the competition is far from over.

See you on the felts, Mavericks!
