Edible, Skinner: Trading Blows at LoHo
Sunday May 21st, 2023. A date that will go down in history with the likes of the Ice Bowl, the Thrilla in Manila, and Steamboat vs Savage (Wrestlemania III). Two players in the primes of their poker life squared off in an epic 45-minute heads-up duel. In the end, only one could leave the table with all the chips and the $50 gift certificate (and the satisfaction of victory). The other would be left with the scars of defeat, the haunting ponderings of whoulda-coulda-shoulda, and a $25 gift certificate to sooth their battered & bruised ego.
The two players, Ed Edible Cavaciuti and Once-a-While Kyle Skinner. This epic began with Kyle holding roughly a 3-to-1 chip lead, looking like he had Edible on the ropes for a quick KO. However, Edible had other plans. On the very first hand, Edible doubled up, setting the stage for war of attrition that subsequently followed. Both players fired their volleys at the other; neither gaining nor surrendering too much ground. Both players performed at the peak of their game, overcoming the suck-outs and dodging the bad beats.
Three quarters of an hour elapsed: and alas, as the Highlander said, “There can be only one”. Edible gained the advantage. Kyle found a hand worthy of a last stand and got all the chips in the pot. Like Montana to Clark in ’82, Edible’s hand connected and held. As the last card fell and the pot was racked, Eeyore sat in quiet reflection amongst the towers of chips that surround him. Congratulations Ed and well played, sir.
