Recently Mike Van Gorkom won his league night at the Lariat Lounge in Wishek, ND. He was running good that night and for winning he received one of the scratch cards. His luck continued as he proceeded to scratch off four nines. On the seventh scratch he found the fourth nine making him FPN's first Poker Pro qualifier! The scratch cards definitely make things interesting as statistically we should have about 9-12 for this promotion. Mike can still play in league and go for a double chip stack at the nationals by qualifying again. Mike proves that on any given night you could qualify for Vegas!
The North Dakota region held its championship event at Westside Bar & Grill in Mandan, ND over Easter weekend with 178 players in attendance. The top 11 players qualified for a seat in the Sin City Showdown national final with the top 5 players earning the bonus of airfare and hotel accommodations to Las Vegas. One additional lucky player qualified unexpectedly - Sheryl Yocom from Minot - when she scratched off 4-of-a-kind in the new "Scratch Poker" game.

The Sin City Showdown Regional playoffs are underway. There are five of the eleven regionals will take place this weekend April 9th & 10th around the state. Make sure to check out your leaderboards and don't miss your opportunity to make it to the ND State Championship which will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at Westside Bar & Grill in Mandan. Dakota Poker League players from all over the state converge on Westside Grill & Bar in Mandan Saturday for a chance to qualify for the exclusive Free Poker Network "Sin City Showdown" National Final this summer in Las Vegas where 11 seats to the 2011 World Series of Poker, including a $10,000 main event seat will be up for grabs. The top 5 players earn airfare and hotel accommodations, and another 6 players win invitations for a total of 11 national qualifiers from the state of North Dakota.
Joyce Whitmore from Hope, ND won a $10,000 main event seat from the poker league back in 2007 and is has a chance to win again. She is among 13 players in tournament that have previously won a grand prize through the league. All tournaments in the league are 100% free to play at participating bars across the state.

North Dakota native, and current St. Luis Park, MN, resident, Jason Senti managed to work his short-stack at the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event this past weekend at the Rio in Las Vegas, finishing in seventh-place for $1,356,720! Way to represent the home land, Jason! I'm sure your dad, and long-time Minnesota Poker League player Bruce was proud, if not a bit jealous, of your big win!
